Methylene blue, also known as methylthioninium chloride, is a chemical compound widely used as a dye and medication. Often referred to as the "first fully synthetic drug," MB has a rich history of clinical and therapeutic applications.

Methylene blue is widely used in diagnostics (e.g., staining abnormal cells) and in treating disorders such as methemoglobinemia. In some cases, it is also used to treat malaria and cyanide poisoning. In small doses, it is considered safe, but there are contraindications.
